Summer???

Well it's officially summer but we've only had like 2 nice days here. Yesterday was pretty nice but then it got really cold at night. Pretty much every other day for the last few weeks has been rainy.I spent a bunch of hours applying to school's yesterday, so we'll see if anything happens with those applications. I still won't have my teaching certificate until the end of August at least, so we'll see what happens.

Things are pretty good here. I went to a Red Sox game last week. Our friends gave us their box tickets becuase they didn't want to go (they have season tickets and go like at least once a week). The tickets were 11th row. We were really close to the field. The same was pretty fun, it was the 500th consecutive sellout at Fenway! Other then that not too much has happened. Lots of work during the week and just hanging out with Heather and my family at night. We have walked downtown a few times to eat or just to go for a walk. It's not too far away and downtown Andover is pretty nice. All of the stores are very expensive, but the restaurants that are there are prettty nice and of course there is Dunkin Donuts, which I am starting to love. (Maybe just to fit in ? Haha)

I got my hair done yesterday so now my hair is finally one color again..1 s much as I loved the dark brown/light brown/redish patches of hair I decided it was finally time to go get my hair done professionally instead of trying another box of dye :) (plus my mom paid for it..... major perk)
This week should be fun. 4 days of work and then my cousin and her husband and coing to Boston for the 4th and we are going to go see the fireworks/Boston pops in Boston so that should be pretty awesome.

I hope all is well with everyone. Send me e-mails with updates!!!

Random picture of Fenway for your viewing please. This is stolen from Heather and I wasn't actually even there when this was taken. I was at work and Heather was at a job fair at Fenway (pretty random location for a job fair, but whatever :) )

Rainy Days

Hello again!

I don't have to go into work until noon today (woo hoo!) cause I've had 3 10+ hour days this week, so I'm only working 6 hours today.... since I have time in the morning I am updating!

Life has been pretty good. Pretty much Just working. Work is going very well. I've been in the Infant room and toddler rooms mostly but next week I will go into the preschool room for a few weeks full time. They are losing one of their teachers so I will help with that transition. Not too much to tell about work... lots of diaper changes and hugs from small children hah. It's a lot of fun though, and I have some great coworkers so that is nice.

The weather here has sucked all week, so Heather and I haven't done much out of the house. We went out to dinner one night with my mom. started a puzzle (because we were watching too much TV), and last night we went over to one of my coworkers houses to hang out for a bit. That was fun, and it was nice to go hang out with someone new!

No luck on the job/apartment search so far but I'm not doing much with it. I signed up for all of the MA teacher tests. I take 2 tomorrow morning and 3 more in July. $500 and a lot of hours... but it's needed so hopefully I'll pass them all with no problem. I don't know when I'm going to turn in applications. I should do it soon, but I don't have my certificate and won't have it until August which is a problem... so I'm not sure what will happen. We'll see.

Some friends from France are visiting right now. They are here to see the states and it's raining the entire time :( . They actually came for a conference, but are staying for over a week so sight see and visit with my parents... hopefully it will be nice weather for them a little bit!

hmm... what else can I update you on? :) This weekend shouldn't be too exciting. Tests on Saturday, and then on Sunday Heather and I will probably go to church. My sisters high school youth leader told me about a church in Lexington that she liked a lot so we checked it out. It seems pretty cool. We have gone to the service twice now, and I think this weekend we are going to go to the 6pm service which apparently has a lot of young people going to it. They also have a Thursday night group for 20's and 30's so I think I/we will check that out this Thursday night and see what it's like. Maybe meet some new people.

I'm feeling more settled in now, work keeps me busy so I don't miss Michigan as much because I don't have tons of time to just sit around. Heather is still looking for a summer job. She's applied to a lot of places but there are not a ton of jobs around here, especially just for the summer. Hopefully she will find something soon so that she can get out of the house more. I'm sure she's bored sitting around the house all day. :(

As always, you should comment on here or send me an e-mail (morgan.jessicac@gmail.com) telling me how your life is going! I hope everything is going well for everyone!

An Exciting Monday Night

I've officially been in MA for a week now...nothing too exciting is going on here, just thought I'd update because there's not much else to do right now.(like filling out applications for jobs in the fall. That would probably be a good thing to work on.) I've found a few job openings and I'm working on apps for them... Hopefully I can get my applications in soon and start interviewing (yikes!). Last week we spent a lot of time just unpacking and settling in. Over the weekend Erica, Heather, and I went to Boston for a little bit and attempted to sow Heather around a bit because she'd never been there before. This week I'm not up to much. Heather and I might go shopping or to the beach tomorrow and then I start work on Thursday. I'm working at a daycare center as a substitute teacher... just filling in for people when they are on vacation/take days off. Hopefully it will be 40 hours a week but they told me they cannot guarantee it. Either way it will end up being good money and hopefully fun. If it ends up not being full time that might be good because then I can spend more time looking for jobs/apartments.

You should all e-mail me to update me on your lives. :)

First Post (again)

Somehow my first post got deleted (probably the result of me trying to figure out how to use this thing)

But Marie still had it open on her computer so she copied it for me... here it is again.

Hi Friends! So I've decided to start a blog becuase... well why not. That way I can feel like I'm updating people on my life, and you can choose to read it if you want. :) As most of you know, I just moved to Andover to live with my family for the summer. My friend Heather also came with me, and we are going to look for jobs/an apartment somewhere near Boston. We should be in our own place by September 1. Renting before that would be hard becuase we have minimal money and not a ton of time to search for apartments. We've been here for almost a week now, so I'm starting to feel more settled. I still have a huge to do list before I will feel totally settled, but so far so good.

Ok, I'm gonna go figure out more about how this works and then maybe I'll add some photos from my South Dakota trip! :)

Look.... I graduated :) This is me with some of my housemates!!

South Dakota

mmmmmmmmmmmk I'm not really sure how to use this, but that's ok. Anyways, South Dakota was a lot of fun. We spent almost 3 weeks on the Rosebud Indian reservation. There was 20 of us (18 Hope students and 2 professors). I worked in a 2nd grade classroom at one of the Todd County Elementary schools. The reservation has a really high poverty rate, so working with those 2nd graders was a lot different than any school I had worked in before. The kids all came from broken families, many of them have seen a lot of gang violence /domestic abuse, and they all have lots of other issues that they come into school with. No one really has any internal motivation--the high school has a 70% drop out rate, so it is really hard for teachers to get their students excited about school because 's they don't want to be there at all. However, I loved being in the schools and the kids enjoyed me being there. We went on a field trip one day which was a lot of fun (I'll try to figure out how to add some pictures :) ).

Other than working in the schools we took some time to learn about the culture and also to be tourists. Some
Lakota Indians came and talked to our group about their traditions and stories. It was neat to hear about some of their traditions and beliefs, many o them were very different from anything that I am used to. They also took us around the reservation and showed us some places. As far as being tourist goes... we went to Custer State Park, The Badlands, Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse, and Wall Drug (the biggest drug store in the world hah) They were all very cool. I think my favorite was the badlands. We got out of our huge vans to walk around the badlands for a while.

ok .. now to try and add some photos :)

Laurel and I at the World's ONLY Corn Palace. haha.... it was pretty awesome... i guess :)

The Badlands. It's hard to get a good photo of them because I feel like they are so much cooler in person.
My 2nd graders on the field trip to Mammoth site (a site where they find a lot of mammoth bones) and Evan's Plunge (a water park with water from hot springs).

Half of the Hope Group!

Mount Rushmore

What is currently completed of crazy horse. It was started in 1948 but is not being worked on right now becuase they don't have enough funding. So far the face is completed. The picture below is what the sculpture will eventually look like. When it is done, it will be the biggest monument in the world.
